Modern

Modern dance was born in America. A group of dancers decided to rebel against the rules of ballet and together they created what we know today as Modern. Their choreography reflected and challenged the art, philosophy and issues of their time, explored new cultures, made new advances in theatre and discarded the traditional costumes of classical ballet. From this small family tree, emerged another generation of dances and dance companies- like Martha Graham, Lester Horton, Jose Limon, Alvin Ailey and so many other incredible artists. In Modern class, we explore the traditions of these wonderful pioneers in dance and create our own art too.

Thursdays 7:00-8:00 PM

Lyrical dance is a wonderful way for dancers to learn to truly express themselves as artists. We tell stories of love, sadness, friendship and hope through this genre. Lyrical is a combination of the techniques learned in ballet, jazz and modern. Choreography encompasses the use of balance, flexibility and control utilizing the lyrics and feeling of the music. This genre is only offered to level 3 dancers and up.
